أسست الأميرة عفت الثنيان دار الحنان في مدينة جدة عام 1375هـ الموافق 1955م، وقد أنشأتها لتكون داراً لرعاية الفتيات اليتيمات والمحتاجات وكانت تخضع للنظام الداخلي المجاني تحت رعاية ونفقة الأميرة عفت الثنيان حرم الملك فيصل رحمه الله.
